Ebay loses its shine

Ebay recently announced that in May 2008, they will be modifying their system so that sellers cannot leave negative feedback (unless they file a dispute with the buyer, and the dispute is ruled in favour of the seller). It appears that Ebay has decided to implement this so that buyers are more 'protected'. A newly registered buyer who receives negative feedback may feel that their reputation is tarnished forever and will likely cease using Ebay, and this translates to less revenue for Ebay.

Without negative feedback, the trading community cannot differentiate between friend and foe. Imagine not knowing if you're about to buy or sell to a scammer or persistent non-paying bidder! It completely ruins the whole concept of feedback.

Ebay also announced they would cut their listing fees by 50%, but it will be offset by higher commissions. Higher commissions mean more money made compared to the fixed-rate listing fees. While it may sound less risky (sellers don't lose as much in fees if their item doesn't sell), it's another revenue-raising tactic for Ebay.

If you feel this is traiterous and totilitarian, you have a choice! At OZeDEAL, you can buy and sell the way it should be. No fees. No commissions. 100% Aussie online auctions, fair and square.
